Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition that usually develops gradually, over several years, due to wear and tear of joints and affects a number of different joints. So the risk factors are

  • Gender – Women are more prone.
  • Trauma – Direct or indirect injuries to the articular cartilages or Fractures especially of weight bearing bones.
  • Abnormal posture walking styles and unequal length of leg

SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS

Joint Pain- Join pain that is aggravated by use and relieved by rest

Stiffness- Increasing stiffness of the joint upon arising in the morning or after a period of inactivity

Swelling– Physical examination will reveals localized soft tissue swelling of mild degree

Crepitus– Rubbing feeling and/or sound on while moving that joint is called as crepitus

Muscle Atrophy– Weakness of local muscles involved is atrophy generally caused due to disuse
