Motherhood is a beautiful yet transformative journey that brings immense joy and responsibility. After childbirth, a mother’s body goes through several physical and emotional changes that require proper care and attention. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of postpartum care to ensure complete recovery, balance, and well-being. But when should postpartum treatment begin? Let’s explore the right time to start Ayurvedic postpartum care based on the type of delivery.

Postpartum Care After Normal Delivery

For mothers who have had a normal vaginal delivery, postpartum Ayurvedic treatments can begin the day after hospital discharge. The initial phase focuses on:

Gentle oil massages (Abhyanga) to restore strength and relieve muscle tension.

Herbal medicines and decoctions to enhance digestion and remove toxins.

Balanced Ayurvedic diet to improve lactation and energy levels.

Warm baths infused with medicinal herbs to promote healing and relaxation.

These treatments help in faster recovery, improve circulation, and restore hormonal balance.

Postpartum Care After Cesarean Delivery

For mothers who have had a cesarean section, the body requires additional time to heal before starting Ayurvedic treatments. It is advisable to wait for at least two weeks after hospital discharge before beginning any postpartum therapy. During this period, the focus should be on:

Mild internal medications to aid digestion and improve immunity.

Nutrient-rich diet to accelerate healing and strengthen the body.

Light massages with specific oils, avoiding the surgical area until complete healing occurs.

Once the incision has healed adequately, full-body Abhyanga (massage), Swedana (herbal steam therapy), and herbal detox treatments can be introduced to eliminate toxins and enhance physical and mental well-being.
